Sexual Violence Counsellor / Therapeutic Case Manager

Whitsunday Counselling & Support Inc (WCS) has been supporting individuals, families and communities impacted by domestic, family and sexual violence across the Whitsunday region for more than 30 years.
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Sexual Violence Counsellor/Therapeutic Case Manager to join our Counselling Services team. This is an opportunity to provide specialised counselling, therapeutic support and advocacy to adults, young people and families impacted by sexual violence, helping them move towards healing, recovery and empowerment.
About the Role
As a Sexual Violence Counsellor/Therapeutic Case Manager, you will provide trauma-informed counselling and therapeutic case management to individuals experiencing the impacts of recent or historical sexual violence.
Working within a supportive multidisciplinary team, you will:

Conduct intake, assessment and therapeutic case management.

Provide crisis intervention and ongoing counselling.

Undertake risk assessments and safety planning.

Support clients to navigate medical, legal, police and victim support systems.

Advocate for clients and facilitate referrals to specialist and community services.

Deliver psychoeducation and recovery-focused interventions.
-
Contribute to community education and awareness activities relating to sexual violence prevention, consent, respectful relationships and recovery.

Maintain accurate and timely records in line with legislative and funding requirements.
About You
You are a compassionate and professional practitioner who is committed to trauma-informed, client-centred practice.
To be successful in this role, you will have:

Diploma of Counselling or higher qualification.
-
Minimum two years' experience in counselling, trauma, sexual violence, or a related human services field.

Demonstrated understanding of trauma-informed, strengths-based and recovery-oriented practice.
-
Experience conducting risk assessments and safety planning.
-
Strong communication, advocacy and stakeholder engagement skills.
-
Current Queensland Open Drivers Licence.
-
Current Queensland Blue Card (or ability to obtain prior to commencement).
Highly Desirable
-
Degree qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Social Sciences or a related discipline.

Eligibility for membership (or working towards membership) with AASW, APS or ACA.

Experience supporting individuals impacted by sexual violence and complex trauma.

Whitsunday Counselling and Support Inc. (WCS) has been providing compassionate, trauma‑informed support to individuals and families impacted by domestic and family violence and sexual assault for more than 30 years. As the only dedicated DFV service in the Whitsundays, our team delivers a broad range of evidence‑based programs designed to empower clients, support safety, and strengthen communities.
We are seeking a Therapeutic Case Manager to join our highly skilled Refuge team. This role offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the lives of women and children experiencing crisis, while working within an organisation committed to integrity, cultural safety, compassion and client‑centred practice.
About the Role
As a Therapeutic Case Manager, you will provide trauma‑informed, holistic case management to women and children residing in our Refuge and Transitional Housing Program. Every day brings an opportunity to support safety, stabilisation and recovery through therapeutic intervention, advocacy, risk management and practical assistance.
In this role, you will:

Conduct intake, risk and needs assessments to develop tailored case plans.

Deliver strengths‑based therapeutic case management and safety planning.
-
Advocate for clients across housing, legal, financial, child safety, education and wellbeing needs.
-
Facilitate referrals to internal and external supports, including counselling and specialist services.
-
Respond to high‑risk DFV situations and contribute to coordinated multi‑agency responses.
-
Support the daily operation of the Refuge, assisting with practical tasks where required.
-
Maintain accurate, compliant documentation and contribute to continuous improvement.
-
Participate in community engagement activities and prevention initiatives.
This role suits a practitioner who is adaptable, confident in crisis response, and capable of working in a fast‑paced environment with competing priorities.
What We’re Looking For

Experience delivering case management to vulnerable individuals and families.

Knowledge of the impacts of domestic and family violence on adults and children.

Ability to engage respectfully and professionally with clients from diverse backgrounds.

Skills in risk assessment, safety planning and trauma‑informed practice.

Strong communication, advocacy and stakeholder collaboration skills.

Commitment to ethical practice, client autonomy, human rights and child‑safe frameworks.

A current QLD Blue Card (or ability to obtain).

A current QLD Open Driver Licence.
Highly Desirable:

Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Social Sciences or related field.

Eligibility for membership with AASW, APS, ACA or similar professional body.

Additional Information

6‑month probation period.
-
Participation in a rotating 24‑hour on‑call roster is required.

Hours are generally Monday–Friday, 8am–5pm, with some flexibility as needed.
